: a 3-D virtual world created by its Residents. (SecondLife, 2015)
is an online virtual world, developed by Linden Lab, based in San Francisco, and launched on June 23, 2003. By 2013 Second Life had approximately 1 million regular users, according to Linden Lab, which owns Second Life. The virtual world can be accessed freely via Linden Lab's own client programs, or via alternative Third Party Viewers. Second Life users (also called Residents) create virtual representations of themselves, called avatars and are able to interact with other avatars, places or objects. They can explore the world (known as the grid), meet other residents, socialize, participate in individual and group activities, build, create, shop and trade virtual property and services with one another. It is a platform that principally features 3D-based user-generated content. Second Life also has its own virtual currency, the Linden Dollar, which is exchangeable with real world currency. Cosma has a 3D interface that allows you to browse content spatially!
Cosma has been using the virtual world
to provide a 3D interface to Cosma since 2006.
The SecondLife interface consists of a series of virtual spaces designed around inviting metaphors.
The spaces all have hundreds of interactive objects such as animals, vehicles, rides and games.
There are also a number of "Magic Doors" that serve as portals to interesting SecondLife sites.
Most importantly, there are “Magic Windows” and other
that you can click on
to open a browser window that displays subject specific pages on this and other web sites.

Can people actually 'own' virtual land? (John D. Sutter, CNN)
Building content for 3D can be intimidating, but the Ivory Tower of Primitives has been doing a great job of easing people into it for a decade. It is actually easier to begin by learning how to author in SecondLife using this site and then move on to more complex authoring systems like Blender and Unity.

These regions have been lovingly crafted by some very talented Second Life creators and are well worthy of taking many snapsh...
Making Email From Second Life (More) Reliable
Apr 18, 2017
There are lots of things in Second Life that send email, but as many of you have discovered, that email doesn't always get to the intended recipient. There are a lot of reasons for email from SL not being as reliable as we'd all like, and the Lab is working on fixing as many of those as we can, but some of them need your help. One of the most important reasons mail doesn't get through is that many Second Life accounts have bad email addresses - when something in Second Life sends to...

Remember the first time you teleported into a space in Second Life that put you in total awe? For me, it was Transylvania, long before I was a Linden. My friend, who had introduced me to Second Life, invited me to his little home — after wandering like a newb nomad for days, it was one of the first times I’d met up with him inworld. I will never forget how enthusiastically he showed me his little coffin bed and walked me around the streets where people were openly role-playing a...
